1) You spend less for more

Adoption fees usually include vaccinations, sterilisation, deworming, microchipping, registration and licensing. This makes adoption very affordable and definitely cheaper than purchasing pedigrees.

And nothing beats looking into the grateful, adoring eyes of a rescued animal.

2) You get to pick pets across all ages & breeds

Puppies and kittens are very cute, but they can be quite pesky to train. Some rescue animals are 'pre-owned' and may already be toilet trained, making it easier for first-time pet owners.

Senior dogs and cats can be super sweet temperament-wise. They are also more likely to be willing to Netflix and chill with you.

Rescue animals come in all shapes, sizes and breeds. Be it Singapore Specials or pre-owned purebreds, you'll get to choose from a good variety. It's not only dogs and cats too. Plenty of pocket pets, e.g. rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs await warm new homes.

3) You are saving more than a life

Bringing a rescue animal home means you free up a space to shelter another animal while it waits for a loving home. And how many of us (unless you are a medical professional, firefighter etc.) can actually say that we have saved a life huh?

Be the hero you know you are. ;)

4) You are supporting a community/non-profit institution

Keep these institutions running because they support this awesome cause. Your adoption will also encourage staff, volunteers and fosterers to keep up with their labour of love and compassion. It motivates them to know that happy-ever-after is possible for these animals in their care!

5) You send puppy mills a strong message

Puppy mills exist because of a high demand for popular breeds of dogs. To turn quick profits, puppy mills exploit breeder dogs. Inhumane breeders impregnate these animals intensively on a large scale, and often house them in appalling, cramped conditions. By adopting, you join a growing community that stands for “Adopt, don’t shop”.

6) You are more self aware

Pre-adoption assessments make you more aware of the type of pet suited to your home environment, family and lifestyle. This is especially important for first-time pet owners. Having someone experienced to advise you, ensures that you'll make the best decision for your lifestyle and for the animal. Because we all (should) know that getting a pet is not as straightforward as cash-and-carry.
